Curtin University Football Club drew 1-1 with Joondalup City on Saturday afternoon in their Football West State League Division 2 clash. Nathan Smiths first half strike was cancelled out by a 93rd minute equaliser from City substitute Rhys Booth. Mark Matkovic was a rock in the Uni defence winning everything in the air for the home side while Eddie Tikoft was also outstanding, being creative and working tirelessly. The match also saw the return from illness of promising youngster Rob Keegan.

Curtin dominated early proceedings and were rewarded when Smith scored his second goal for the season to give the home side a 1-0 lead which they took into the break. Both teams probed for much of the second half in a bid to either kill off the game or find a way back in. It was City who found the breakthrough late in the game as they scored the equaliser in the 3rd minute of added time with Booth put the ball into Curtin custodian Ranjeet Sekhon’s net from a set piece.

Curtin coaching duo Kevin Burton and Campbell Ballantyne will have some decisions to make before next week’s clash away to an improved Balga side with Khaled Salhah, Robbie Nicholl and Rory Patterson as well as keeper Mackenzie Ferguson all performing well for the reserves and putting their hand up for a first team call up.
