TIKOFT APPROVAL AS CURTIN BEAT ELLENBROOK

27 Jun 2015 by Curtin Football Committee

Curtin University Football Club defeated Ellenbrook United 1-0 on Saturday with Eddie Tikoft getting the only goal of the match for the home side. Tikoft was outstanding for the boys in green and was well supported by the returning Antony Russo, the tireless Khaled Salhah and makeshift centre back Jon Krawec.

In an exciting first half it was all Curtin with Rory Binnie causing trouble for the visitors along with Russo who was influential in the middle of the park. Curtin hit the front when Dilip Thapa launched a long throw into the box. Ellenbrook failed to clear their lines and TIkoft was able to head home to give his side a deserved lead. Both Binnie and Thapa had chances to extend the lead but were unable to finish and the teams went into the break with only one goal scored.

Curtin again had the lion’s share of possession in the second half but struggled to hit the target at times with Binnie heading wide early on and Tikoft also putting his header wide late in the half. The best chance however fell to substitute Pieter Coenen who saw his point blank effort from a Krawec square ball well saved. As the match headed into its dying minutes Ellenbroook resorted to long balls and they were easily dealt with by Krawec and company in the Curtin backline.

Next Saturday Curtin travel to take on the 4th placed Fremantle City as they look to improve on the defeat they suffered there earlier this year in the FFA Cup.
