WASTEFUL CURTIN DRAW WITH KELMSCOTT

18 Jul 2015 by Curtin Football Committee

A makeshift Curtin University Football Club drew 0-0 with Kelmscott on Saturday afternoon at Raphael Park with the home side missing multiple chances to take all three points. Mackenzie Ferguson was solid in goal for Curtin while full backs Kristian Beven and Offered Ziuchi provided attacking options going forward but the Uni side could not convert their dominance into three points.

Kelmscott had their first and only real chance of the match just 9 minutes in when Glory Bahigwa pounce on a soft backpass only to hit the post after rounding Ferguson. It would be Kristian Usedo who would be the busier of the two keepers however and he was relieved to see Rob Keegan’s volley go wide after 20 minutes before pulling off fine saves from both Eddie Tikoft and Robbie Nicholl. Carlo Chiellini and Nicholl again would have chances but the sides went into the break with no score.

There was no let up after the break for Usedo but he was well supported by Aaron Hardy who was at hand to shut down Khaled Salhah just minutes after the restart. With 20 minutes left in the match Tikoft saw his shot saved well before he headed the resulting corner straight at Usedo from just 5 yards.

Second half substitute had a chance to give Curtin the lead but his volley sailed agonizingly over the bar. With just minutes left in the match Salhah saw his shot handled in the box, he stepped up to take the resultant penalty but Usedo guessed the right way as he dove to his right to earn his side their first point of the season.

Curtin make the long trip north to take on Quinns FC next Saturday as they look to string some results together late in the season.
