SALHAH STARS AS CURTIN SCORE FOUR

23 Aug 2015 by Curtin Football Committee

In a special Sunday evening fixture Curtin University Football Club defeated a strong Melville City side 4-0. The returning Eddie Tikoft and Carlo Chiellini both scored as well as danger man Nathan Smith and the ever inventive Dilip Thapa. While not on the scoresheet man of the match Khaled Salah was the standout for the Uni side along with captain, Kye Middleton and Dominic Jakszuk at centre back.

It started well for Curtin as they were on top early but they could not convert their possession and neat passing game into a goal with Mirco Grgurinovic standing tall for the visiting Melville. The visitors looked dangerous on the break but Jakszuv, Albert Bucchino and Lewis Harvey dealt with all City through at them. The teams went into the half time break locked at 0-0 but the boisterous local crowd could feel that it was coming.

In an explosive 20 minute period the damage was done for Curtin. Salhah showboated his way passed some hapless Melville defending before feeding Smith who teed up Tikoft to fire home and give the home side the lead. Next it was Smith who would get on the score sheet with a powerful header that left Grgurinovic with no chance.

It got worse for the visitors when Chiellini made it 3-0. As the ball sat up for the play maker he struck a vicious, dipping volley from 25 yards that showed why he is rated one of the best in the league. The impressive Thapa then found himself some space on the edge of the box to round out the scoring with a fine finish to make it 4-0. Curtin were then in cruise control and took the opportunity to rest some key players as they ran out comfortable winners.
