WANNEROO TICKED OFF

30 Aug 2015 by Curtin Football Committee

In an end to end affair Curtin University Football Club ran out victors as they travelled away to Wanneroo City. A stroke of genius from Eddie Tikoft and multiple saves from Mackenzie Ferguson were the match winners for the Curtin. Along with Tikoft and Ferguson there were outstanding displays from the tireless Kristian Beven, Daniel Young and Dominic Jakszuk.

Wanneroo started the better of the two sides and Curtin had Ferguson to thank as he first pushed Blake Wright’s point blank effort onto the bar before deflecting another Wright effort wide just minutes later.

Curtin grew into the half and should have opened the scoring when Lewis Harvey picked out Carlo Chiellini at the far post, only for the normally reliable midfielder to fire wide. Both sides continued to probe but they entered the half time break locked scoreless.

The second half started much like the first, with Ferguson and Jaksuk dealing with everything Wannerro threw at them while Tikoft, Young and the inventive Dilip Thapa looked to break down a resolute defensive shape from the home side.

The breakthrough finally came with just minutes to play when Tikoft found himself in space 35 yards from goal. He lifted his head, caught a glimpse that Wanneroo custodian Daniel Agudelo was caught off his line and lofted the ball over the home side’s captain’s head to steal the win.

Ferguson, in a man of the match performance, then made two more saves late in the game to earn his side a hard fought win away from home.
