Application to Women's NPL 2020

17 Nov 2019 by Campbell Ballantyne

We are very proud to announce we have applied to compete in the Women’s NPL in 2020.

Firstly the club thanks all involved with putting together a 98-page document that we believe is a very strong application, however, we are sure the field will be strong too.

If we are successful in our application and accept an invitation to the league in 2020, it will have implications on our current women’s teams. However, we can expect change even if our application is unsuccessful. The entire structure of senior women’s football in WA is changing.

The current premier league (six teams) is being scrapped to be replaced by an eight-team NPL. State league will remain, but clubs will not be permitted to play in both state league and NPL. We are currently a state league division 1 side and the division has four clubs who also played in the 2019 premier league. Footballwest is also introducing an amateur league between state league and metros and these are also open to application.

The 2020 committee will have some big decisions about which competitions we enter to ensure we stand by our philosophy of “football for all”. As a club, we look to ensure we provide a quality football product for all levels of players, and the challenge will be ensuring we get this right, both in 2020 and setting us up for the future. These decisions do belong to the 2020 committee which will be elected at our AGM on Monday night 18th November.

Unfortunately, we could not delay the application until then as the closing date was Friday 16th November.

Following the formal AGM, the exec and new committee will take a Q&A session on this application and listen to suggestions from membership on what comes next. Two action plans will be developed on what steps we take depending on the outcome of our application.

If you want to have your say on this matter, please come to the AGM Monday 18th November 630 pm Edinburgh Oval Club House
