THAPA SHINES FOR CURTIN
12 Jul 2015 by Curtin Football Committee
Curtin University Soccer Club put Olympic Kingsway to the sword on Saturday afternoon lead by Dilip Thapa who scored two goals and provided 2 assists in a 6-2 victory. Also getting on the score sheet for the visitors were the returning Carlo Chiellini, Rory Binnie, Khaled Salhah and second half substitute Mahamud Noor.
Curtin started the better and were rewarded when Chiellini side footed home after Thapa created space down the right hand side. Next it was Curtin keeper Ranjeet Sekhon who was called into action as he shut down Nathan Thurp at close range to maintain Curtin’s advantage. Thapa would then double Curtin’s lead as Kristian Beven pounced on a loose ball and Thapa struck the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
After the break Thurp pulled one back for Kingsway when his deflected shot left Curtin’s brilliant custodian Sekhon wrong footed. This was a wakeup call for Curtin who turned the screw and were rewarded when Thapa and Binnie both pounced on defensive errors to extend the lead in the space of two minutes. Next it was Salhah to get in on the action as Eddie Tikoft superbly squared the ball for him to side foot home.
Joe Woodin scored a late consolation for Kingsway but it would be Noor who had the last laugh as he scored the goal of the match. Thapa stole the ball in a dangerous area, beat two defenders and crossed for Noor who lashed the ball home on the volley leaving Kingsway Goalkeeper Sam Hebison no chance with his fierce strike.
Next weekend Curtin entertain bottom of the ladder Kelmscott Roos at Raphael Park in Victoria Park as they look to build on this week’s result.
Team: Sekhon, Beven, Keegan (Arab), Harvey, Thapa, Binnie (Noor), Chiellini, Tikoft, Salhah, Gerrace, Bucchino (Jakszuk).
