Curtin Confirm Place in Top Four
29 Aug by Campbell Ballantyne
Curtin University FC has confirmed its place in the promotion playoffs for a second consecutive season with two games remaining in the season. In a catch-up game on Tuesday night, Curtin rallied from being 2-1 down in the second half with goals from Jordan Valentini and Rowan Steed to take the points in a 3-2 win.
Those points meant only Forrestfield could deny Curtin a place in the Top 4 and to do so they need 9 points from their last three matches and a significant swing in goal difference. The final confirmation came last night with Forrestfield’s 5-2 loss to Canning. Forrestfield, sitting in 6th place and competing for a playoff spot, could not overcome Canning, which meant Curtin’s position in the promotion playoffs was assured.
CUFC Head Coach Troy Reid, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting, “Securing our place in the playoffs with games to spare is a significant achievement. The team’s hard work over the last couple of months and consistency have been key, and we’re excited to be back in the promotion picture.”
“Going into the last two matches being able to manage the squad is a great advantage.”
Although mathematically still possible, the league title and automatic promotion spot looks to be out of Curtin’s reach being five points off top spot with only 2 matches remaining.
